"Amish
Barn Builders", Watercolor, 27 x 36, $350
Some years ago, I attended an
Amish barn raising in Ohio. Knowing the reluctance of the Amish
to being photographed, I took some discreet long-distance shots
with a telephoto lens. This painting shows the two chief supervisors
conferring under a tree.

"Gate
23", Watercolor, 28 x 36, $350
I always carry a sketchbook when travelling
and like to capture people in their typical poses while waiting
for their flights. This painting is a composite of several sketches
from different airport settings. |

"The
Businessman's Flight", Watercolor, 29 x 36, $375
This painting is a spoof on the
uniformity of businessmen. I chose to do it in monochrome just to
reinforce the point. There is one bit of color, representing the
flight attendant. |

"The Great Wall"
This is a tough
climb! Steeper than it looks over uneven stones, and a handrail
that is set too low for convenience. But a spectacular scene nonetheless.

“Bridge in Provence”
, 20 x 24, $250
Bridges, however
small, are one of my passions. This stone arch was found in Seao,
Provence, September, 2001

I found this old

Guatemala”, Watercolor, 20 x 24, $250

made a larger version in my studio

 |
"Encompassing
Florida", Watercolor, 16 x 20, $175
I was trying to show
here that it is possible to draw a reasonably good map
of Florida using nothing
but a compass! I have included all the coordinates
and radii, if you
would like to try it. |

“How to Repair a
Gardenia”, Watercolor, 20 x 26, $500
I know—it’s
a wacky title. I was looking for something to paint one day and
decided to pick a gardenia and place it in the vise on my work
bench. I liked the contrast of the softness of the flower against
the hardness of all the tools. This painting was featured in a
calendar published by the Gainesville Fine Arts Association in
1987.

“On the Bosphorus”
, Watercolor, 20 x 26, $300
On a business trip
to Istanbul in 1995, I sketched this mosque on the Bosphorus,
then did the painting from the sketch a few years later.

“St. Simon’s
Island, Epworth-by-the-sea”, Watercolor, 20x 26, $300
This small island
off the south Georgia coast has a stunning array of painting sites,
featuring live oaks and old Victorian houses.

“Tucson Plaza”,
Watercolor, 27 x 35, $350
I sketched this
scene in Tucson, Arizona, then painted it later. The sketches
you make become a valuable resource for later paintings, as well
as a good record of your travels.
